The new season of Big Brother is atrocious. They have decided to add a “twist” this year, where the houseguests have to play as a couple. They compete as a couple, win prizes as a couple, nominate other couples, and even get evicted as a couple. They are doing this hoping that there will be romances in the house, which will cause excitement, drama, and ratings. It is not working for me at all. It has turned the show into a huge soap opera (even more than usual, which is quite a feat).
They have also decided to do away with the traditional variety of age groups, so of the 16 houseguests, only one is over 30. Boring…. Why do they think America wants to see a bunch of attractive, young people walking around the house in their underwear? Well, maybe they have a point here. But I am more interested in the gameplay, which is more interesting when they have a variety of age groups (in my opinion). This group seems especially vapid this year. They actually have a bikini barista as a houseguest. Yes, that job is just as ridiculous as it sounds.
Of course, as a reality TV addict, I am sure I will be watching this trainwreck to the bitter end. I’ll keep you posted on the highlights (and lowlights).
